Improper brushing can lead to tooth decay, which manifests as a black hole in the tooth and can cause sensitivity or pain depending on the severity of the decay.
Decay only worsens over time once it begins in a tooth. If the decay has not reached the tooth’s nerves, it can be treated with a tooth filling. However, if it reaches the nerves, a root canal treatment is required.
At the start of your appointment, we prioritize making you comfortable in the dental chair. If the tooth is painful or sensitive, we begin by administering a local anesthetic. We then use the latest machines to clean the decay, which produces minimal noise and is comfortable for our patients.
Once we feel the decay is cleaned, we double-check with a chemical stain called a caries indicator to ensure no remaining decay is present. If the cavity is satisfactorily cleaned and disinfected, we proceed to fill it with a synthetic material called a tooth filling.
At LUCID DENTAL, we use tooth-colored fillings, also known as composite fillings, which are the latest type of filling available worldwide. Composite fillings have several advantages, including their ability to come in different shades that match the color of your teeth and their moldable properties, which allow us to shape the filling to match the exact shape of the tooth.
After shaping, a specialized blue frequency light is used to harden the previously soft composite filling material. A strong adhesive is used to bond the composite filling to the cleaned cavity floor and tooth surface.
If done correctly, composite fillings match the shade of the tooth and are indistinguishable from natural teeth.
