Paediatric Dentist in Pune
The primary (baby) teeth of your child play a crucial role as temporary teeth and serve as guides for their permanent set of teeth. It is essential to prioritise their well-being and growth as it significantly affects their future smile and self-confidence. By maintaining the health and longevity of your child’s primary teeth, you can minimise the occurrence of complications and speech-related issues.
We provide a range of paediatric dentistry services, including:
1. Regular Check-ups
Regular assessments enable us to closely monitor the oral development of your child, making it easier for us to identify and address any concerns in their early stages. We highly recommend scheduling check-ups at least twice a year, starting at the age of 1, to ensure optimal oral health.
2. Fluoride application
Along with teeth cleaning, a professional fluoride treatment is advised to aid in the remineralization of weakened enamel. This process strengthens the teeth, enhancing their resistance against decay and sensitivity. By replenishing essential minerals, fluoride treatment plays a vital role in maintaining optimal dental health for your child, protecting their teeth and reducing the risk of dental issues in the future.
3. Pit and fissure sealants
Dental sealants act as protective barriers that effectively block the entry of bacteria, which causes cavities, into the deep grooves of the back teeth. These preventative fillings are a proactive measure to safeguard your child’s oral health. Applying sealants is a quick and straightforward process, taking only a few minutes. We highly recommend the application of sealants on all permanent (adult) molars, which typically erupt around the ages of 6 and 12. By doing so, we can provide an extra layer of defence against tooth decay and promote long-term dental well-being for your child.
4. Milk teeth fillings
The primary (baby) teeth are susceptible to rapid decay, which can lead to the spread of cavities into the nerve or neighbouring teeth. Our conservative approach involves using composite/GICfillings to repair the damaged areas and prevent the infection from progressing further. These composite/GIC fillings not only stop the spread of decay but also offer an aesthetic solution for front teeth.
5. Milk teeth crowns
Protective crowns, also referred to as “caps,” serve as a means to preserve teeth that are compromised, broken, or severely decayed. They play a crucial role in preventing premature tooth loss and maintaining the overall oral health of your child. At our practice, we offer two types of crowns specifically designed for pediatric patients: stainless steel crowns and tooth-coloured zirconia crowns.
Stainless steel crowns provide durable protection for teeth that require extra support. They are known for their strength and longevity, making them an excellent choice for restoring primary teeth. On the other hand, tooth-coloured zirconia crowns offer both functionality and aesthetics. These crowns are made of a ceramic material that closely matches the natural colour of teeth, ensuring a seamless blend with the surrounding dentition.
By offering these different crown options, we can tailor the treatment to the specific needs of your child, ensuring the preservation of their teeth and promoting their long-term oral health.
6. Pulpotomy
A pulpotomy involves the removal of the infected pulp tissue from the affected tooth while leaving the healthy portion intact. This procedure helps alleviate pain and eliminate the source of infection. After the pulpotomy, a crown is placed over the tooth to provide protection and support.
By undergoing a pulpotomy and receiving a crown, your child’s tooth can be preserved until it naturally falls out and is replaced by a permanent one. This approach not only relieves pain and prevents further infection but also ensures that your child’s oral health remains intact during the transitional phase between primary and permanent teeth.
7. Milk teeth extraction and space maintainer
In cases where a tooth is deemed nonrestorable, a gentle extraction is performed. This extraction is carried out with utmost care to minimise discomfort for your child. Following the extraction, a special appliance is placed to prevent crowding or blockage that could potentially affect the development of the underlying adult tooth.
By removing the non-restorable tooth and using a specialised appliance, we aim to maintain proper spacing and alignment of the surrounding teeth. This appliance serves as a placeholder, ensuring that there is sufficient room for the permanent tooth to erupt naturally when the time comes. This approach is crucial in preventing potential issues such as overcrowding or impaction, which can lead to more complex dental problems in the future.
Our priority is to promote optimal oral development and preserve your child’s dental health. Through gentle extractions and the use of appropriate appliances, we can address non-restorable teeth while safeguarding the long-term alignment and health of your child’s smile.
When is it performed?
We strongly recommend early intervention for children’s dental health. It is advised to bring your child for a dental examination by the age of 1 or when their first tooth appears, whichever comes first.
During your child’s initial visit to our clinic, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of their oral development and screen for any potential risk factors. For older children, we may also assess habits like tongue thrusting, thumb sucking, or speech patterns that may require attention.
Our dentists understand the importance of making your child feel comfortable during the appointment. If your child is cooperative and at ease, we may proceed with a cleaning (for older children) and take a few small X-rays to assess their tooth development.
We prioritize providing personalized care for your child, taking into account their individual comfort level and needs. Our aim is to ensure their dental visit is positive and effective in promoting their oral health.
