A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as an artificial root for a missing tooth.
Over time, the implant fuses with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. Through this process dental Implant is securely anchored in the jawbone. Now it can support a dental prosthesis, such as a crown, bridge, or denture, to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental implants provide a long-term solution for tooth replacement that can look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
A dental implant is typically composed of three parts:
The implant: It is a small titanium screw or post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial root for the replacement tooth.
The abutment: It is a connector piece that is attached to the top of the implant, which connects the implant to the replacement tooth.
The crown: It is the visible part of the replacement tooth that is custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of the patient’s natural teeth. The crown is attached to the abutment, which is in turn attached to the implant.
1) Long term solution of missing teeth
2) Acts and feels like natural teeth
3) Provides maximum biting pressure compared to dental bridges and removable partial dentures
4) complete replacement of missing tooth including tooth crown and tooth root
Placing a Dental Implant is a minor surgical single sitting procedure, the planning of which is done post taking a 3 dimensional CBCT scan to exactly know the height and width of the available bone at the surgical site.
1. Once the scan is studied thoroughly we proceed with the surgery. We at LUCID DENTAL believe in maintaining proper sterilization protocols and asepsis is followed by draping the patient in green surgical autoclaved gown.
2. A sequential drill are used to prepare the surgical site followed by placement of Implant.( Dentsply Sirona)
3. A final radiograph is taken to see the proper positioning of the Dental Implant. Post this a small screw called as a Gingival former is placed so as to help the gums to heal in the desired shape and sutures are placed.
4. The above sutures are removed post 7 days of the surgery. 2-3 months is a normal physiological time required for the bone to get formed around the placed implant helping the Dental Implant to anchor tightly.
5. Once the implant is ready post 3 months(usually) measurement for the crown/cap is taken .
6. The 3rd visit includes tightening the second part(abutment) on the implant followed by finally fixing the dental crown.
A dental implant is closest resemblance to natural teeth and requires the same care . Brushing 2 times a day followed by interdental Flossing should be done everyday. Massaging the gums in the area of the implant helps in maintaining the gums at a good level.
So if you have lost your natural tooth due to any reason and are looking for a replacement, dental implant should be the choice treatment.
